uncle sam foreign aid Foreign Aid: good enough to give but not to receive

America has long been known as the world’s police force by many countries near and far. Whether that’s a good, bad or fair assessment is really not the purpose of this blog. I’m really just pointing out our position and the fact that we are pretty much always up in everyone’s business. Part of being in everyone’s business, is our government’s incessant need to provide aid, in various forms, to many people in need all over the world. I’m not against helping others, although I am against it if it is done while those of us at home need our government’s helping hand to be redirected towards those of us who are paying for such aid. America first, world second: that’s just common sense when it comes to survival.

Now I am a libertarian, if you haven’t guessed or deciphered that for yourself yet, and I feel that government’s role, in all things, should be very limited. I think our government’s quickness and willingness to so freely give aid to other countries, whether allies or not, has gotten out of control and is contributing to the crash of our economic system. The rest of the world are not our children, they’re their own separate entities who have made their own beds and are responsible for themselves. Does that mean we should always turn a blind eye? As people, no; as a country, more often than not, yes. Aid should really be voluntary and not forced upon the American people like our own corrupt and ineffective entitlement programs. Of course, unless, the people agree upon sending aid to some foreign catastrophe. However, there are rare occasions where we should be involved in other countries issues and that is when their problem either directly affects us or if it is something incredibly heinous and evil like the Holocaust.

Another area that we should be concerned about and aid in, is in any sort of major environmental disaster. The planet itself is borderless and environmental catastrophe effects us all. So when something like a huge oil spill or severe nuclear meltdown occurs, I think it is everyone’s business. If a country is unable to fully handle the disaster themselves, then I think it is the duty of others to assist (not take over mind you). If something, like the Gulf Oil Spill, has the ability to spread and hit Mexico, Central America, Cuba, the Caribbean and many other places, than those people should be pretty fucking concerned about it. So why has the American government, who often aids other nations worldwide, turned away help from other countries?

In case you are not up to speed, many countries have offered support to us in regards to containing and cleaning the Gulf Oil Spill. The U.S. government however, has denied help from anyone. Mexico, Canada, South Korea, Great Britain, France, Spain, Croatia, Germany, Ireland, Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands, Romania, Norway and the United Nations have all offered ships, manpower and various other forms of aid in an effort to stop this spill from destroying the Gulf of Mexico and soon the Caribbean and Atlantic Coast. The most dumbfounding thing is that the ships offered by the Dutch, Norwegian and Belgian firms are regarded as the most advanced oil skimming ships in the world. So why in the hell would we turn down all this available aid?

Well, there is this little statute that was enacted in 1920 called the Merchant Marine Act or as it is more commonly known as, the Jones Act. In a nutshell, the Jones Act is a law that states that any and all commercial acts conducted in U.S. waters be performed exclusively by “U.S.-flag ships, constructed in the United States, owned by U.S. citizens, and crewed by U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents.” Basically, no foreign ships are allowed in our waters at anytime unless they are picking up people or dropping people off. This is mainly due to the fact that during the age of the World Wars, we had to protect our shores from foreign ships due to possible attack. In this day and age, the statute is almost archaic. I get why it’s still there but in a world with advanced nuclear weapons and many other means of doing harm, a torpedo to our shores seems like a thing of the past or small potatoes. No country would be stupid enough to attempt such a trivial attack and they all know that the hounds of Hell would hunt them into extinction. In a state of emergency this monolithic, weighing the options between receiving aid and solving this problem now versus an ancient attempt at national security should to be reassessed.

In any event, the Jones Act is not an iron clad statute that can’t be lifted. During Katrina, Bush II lifted it so that foreign ships could help in bringing aid to the victims of the Gulf Coast. So why now, is our leader, Barrack Obama, not doing the same thing? Being the crown prince of liberals, the king of entitlement, the archduke of aid, why won’t he allow others to aid us? This administration has failed epically.

There is a lot more going on here than meets the eye. The Decipticrats have some sinister plan up their sleeves. Never has that plan been more apparent than in President Obama’s Oval Office speech the other night. Obama’s train wreck of a speech was laced with environmental warnings and the need for a cap and trade bill. As Obama’s shit-pickled butt pirate, Rahm Emmanuel, said, “Never let a serious crisis go to waste.” Looks like that is exactly what they’re doing. No-drama-Obama’s cool, calm and collective demeanor is really just the byproduct of an unemotional, unaffected tyrant who is only driven by his own self-interest and not the interest of the people. It’s all about control and pushing an agenda. This disaster was all that they needed to apply the stranglehold of environmental taxation.

Now that may seem like an extreme conclusion but if you look at the facts objectively, there isn’t much else a person of logic could pull out of all this. There is no reason why the government shouldn’t be allowing anyone who is able, to help save the Gulf of Mexico. The only reason why they would turn people away and seemingly do everything wrong would be because they have a strong desire to control this crisis due to some hidden agenda. After Obama’s speech, that agenda is pretty fucking clear.
