Massive mosque to open near the site of 9/11 on its 10th anniversary

Muslims get a bad wrap. I think that may have to do with the muslim extremists blowing up stuff and killing innocent people in the name of Allah. These extremists groups have tainted the muslim faith in the eyes of most Americans and Islam now has a stigma that probably will not dissolve for years or even decades to come. Is that stigma fair, hell no it’s not but I also can’t blame people for having it. Just as I can’t blame a lot of the world for having a stigma against Christianity. Religion has been the cause of most mass bloodshed in our world’s history. I could get on a tirade about religion in general but I’ll save that for another time.

This blog is about some news I recently heard. That news being the fact that muslims are building a massive mosque within a few blocks of where the World Trade Center once stood. From my understanding, people are incredibly irate about this and really, I can’t blame them at all. It does seem pretty fucking insensitive to build a giant worshipping center for Islam so close to the most prolific attack that radical Islam has ever committed.

Now this is where I may come under fire and whatever, I don’t care. Do the muslims have a right to build this mosque? The answer is “yes”. It might not be the smartest and greatest idea on their part but in America, they have the right to do so, even if it upsets the public and the families of the 9/11 victims.

Honestly though, I feel that people are being way too sensitive. What about how the muslims feel? Any bigot douche reading this is probably cursing me right now but doesn’t a person who follows Islam that is a good citizen and not related to these attacks have the right to enjoy the same freedoms that the rest of us have? To say “no” paints you a hypocrite as far as I’m concerned. It may be a stupid idea and considered disrespectful to build this mosque so close to the WTC site but it is still within their rights to do so.

However, this whole situation takes a severe turn for the worse, as the planned opening day of this mosque is September 11th, 2011 – 10 years to the day after 9/11. I’m sorry muslim dudes but that is a bit of a slap in the face. I’m not sure what point they are trying to make but they can’t expect people to not be outraged.

Maybe they are trying to be proactive and say, “Hey look, we’re muslims and we’re here to stay. Let’s love one another and live together in perfect harmony.” However, I doubt that is the reason for this. I just think they’re bitter and tired of being fucked with by their neighbors and it’s a giant “Fuck You!” to everyone who has harassed them over the years. Maybe I’m jumping the gun but what else am I supposed to think?

Granted people today are way too sensitive but their outrage in regards to this situation is pretty justified in my opinion and when it comes down to it, the people have the right to be angry and vocal about it just as the muslims that support this have a right to build a mosque wherever they want and open it whenever they want. That’s the beauty of America and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

However, all these cheap shots, poking and prodding are childish and it’s time to stop at both ends of the argument. This “us versus them” thing has gotten stale and completely disregards reason. Let’s move forward and stop crying over milk that has been spilled for centuries.
