The Next American Revolution: Are we worse off now than in 1776?

revolutionary war The Next American Revolution: Are we worse off now than in 1776?

A question I often ask myself is, “Are we worse off today than when we were in 1776 when our Founding Fathers declared independence from Great Britain and started the American Revolution?”

That question is something I have put a lot of thought to lately, especially as the scope of this country is changing drastically and at an alarming pace. With taxes being out of control, spending being even more out of control and leaders who are only out for their own interest and refuse to have counsel with their constituents, I would have to say that my answer is “yes”.

The colonists circa 1776 were pissed off at King George because they were being taxed without proper representation in British Parliament. There was a 2% tax on tea, which was the most memorable of the taxes the colonists fought against. There were also proposals of taxes on sugar among other things. Colonists were being forced to house British soldiers as well. With all of these things that Britain was imposing on the American Colonies, the people felt that without proper representation in Parliament that the King could tax them to death and destroy their lives by sending them into financial ruination. This was the primary catalyst to war and the spark that earned our beloved country its independence from a tyrannical monster. Although, every American should already know this.

So in comparison to where we were, where are we today? Taxes today are much higher than they were back in Colonial times, even with inflation taken into account. Although we have elected representatives, most of them seemingly disregard our voices and only work for their own self-interest. Look at healthcare now, the people opposed it but Congress and the President forced it upon us. Our voices and cries were not heard. With Obamacare, now comes a shitload of unjust and tyrannical taxes that even the Founding Fathers probably couldn’t have foreseen. Obama is doing away with tax cuts, the bailouts suck our wallets dry and just general taxes to our wages are stifling in comparison to how they were a hundred years ago and decade after decade the percentage increases. There are now taxes on soda, tanning and other ridiculous things. Soon we will be taxed for exhaling. We are also taxed in death! They won’t let us rest.. ever!

In a country where freedom and true capitalism were encouraged upon the birth of our independence, those who work hard and earn their rewards for their hard work are now taxed into oblivion. Success is a vile and evil thing, it’s made to look oppressive, conquering, monopolistic, tyrannical, controlling and slave-driving. Capitalism has become a dirty word, which is how the true tyrants want it. Yet the public, en masse, eats it up like tapioca. The deceit of the elite, that being the politicians, has redirected the finger of blame at big business and success, as opposed to those who tinker with the free markets and free trade causing true capitalism to be thoroughly tainted by the cronyism of Washington’s “scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” philosophy. The real elite, the real criminals are those whom we have voted into their positions.

The deceit and lies within this country, coming down from the top, are much larger and much more damaging than those of King George. At least the King was out in the open with his tyranny. An enemy you can see is better and easier to combat than the one that you allow to provide for you and look at as a parental figure. Herein lies the problem, people are just way too dependent on the government. People have become uneducated and thus easily duped into believing that the all-caring, all-loving government is there to support them and take care of them. Americans haven’t heeded the warnings of the Founding Fathers and learned the lessons of our country’s short history. The system is designed to dumb down the masses and seize control of their wallets and their lives. To fuel the evil machine, the blood of the people must be drained.

Although, people are now waking up in droves it seems. There is a lot of anger in this country and lines are being drawn in the sand. However, all the anger and all the ranting and protesting and sign waving and blogging isn’t going to do shit. People may be inspired by your words and your efforts but what it takes to implement real change is action. Listening to radio talk show hosts and reading books and forming little patriotic clubs won’t change the world. The only thing that will change the world is getting up off of your asses, going out and making a real difference. Confront the politicians, hold their feet to the fire and be willing to give up everything that you love in order for the real American Dream to thrive for future generations.

The difference between people today and the colonists of old, is that most people, even as angry as they are, will not put their own life or the lives of their loved ones on the line to speak out and challenge the modern age tyrants. These tyrants know this very well. If it were ever to come to a real revolution, would people in this country really fight to stop the tyranny and oppression that has been established since around the time of Woodrow Wilson? Would these people fight for their children the same way our ancestors fought for us? I hate to be a pessimist but I feel as if our ancestors fought and won in vain. I don’t see the modern American as even being worthy of dusting off John Adams’ wig.

I can only assume that the Founding Fathers believed that Americans would stay educated, stay smart and that they would have the testicular fortitude that the they had. Unfortunately, that is not the case and that is why the country we live in is more tyrannical and corrupt than the colonies that Washington, Adams, Franklin, Jefferson, Hamilton and all the others lived in. People today quote the Founding Fathers and call for action but it’s as if they are waiting for someone else to start the revolution for them. It’s not going to happen people, chances are, the claws of tyranny are so deep now that even trying to stand up against it would mean your lives. The difference between us and the Founding Fathers is that they KNEW that they were going to die and in the end, they survived and their hard work and sacrifice provided us with the greatest nation this world has ever seen. Now you’re all too scared to hold onto it. Then again, doing so would just make you an enemy of the state and a terrorist because that’s what they do to keep the sheep in line. Fear works and it’s got enough sustenance to keep the sheep alive but only enough to keep them in line.
