It has been about a week since the ObamaCare ruling and what a way to celebrate with tomorrow being the 4th of July! If only they could’ve waited seven days, left the Supreme Court open on the national holiday and allowed the bill to survive in the highest court of the land on our nation’s birthday. It’s not like Lady Liberty isn’t used to black eyes at this point, right? Hell, she’s pretty much been treated like a bargain bin porn star the last century or so.

Moving on, the big question is: where is the election at, now that we are a week removed from one of the darkest days in American history? Well, according to several news sources, Mitt Romney has been collecting money like a fiend from those who want to see Barack Obama fall flat on his face in November. Not that a Romney win will change a damn thing but most Americans don’t understand that and still think that they are limited by two choices and well, we kinda sorta are due to the two-party system’s structure that holds back any and all alternatives from reaching the national stage. I’ve written about the process many times and I won’t waste time here rehashing it. Just know that most Americans are feeling an urge to pull that prickly porcupine out of their ass but most of them don’t realize that they’re just going to replace it with one crammed into their private parts. You think they’d learn but we are truly a nations of highly distracted masochists.

The Democrats refuse to release Obama’s fundraising numbers since the Supreme Court ruling on ObamaCare, which should really raise some eyebrows. Are people sending the American king less money? Is the campaign in fear of exposing any sort of weakness? What happened to all that transparency Obama talked about. Sure, I know this isn’t a governmental function, it is his political campaign but Barry O, in all aspects, is about as transparent as a brick fucking wall.

Another sign that points to Obama’s fundraising being less than Democrats should like, is the fact that the Obama campaign sent out four, yes four, e-mails yesterday in an attempt to encourage liberals to donate to their champion. I’m not one to buy into hype but shit, the conservative media outlets blowing this story up and relishing in it may be onto something. Financially, the Obama campaign certainly isn’t in trouble but the campaign leaders seem to be slipping into a state of paranoia as public outcry against the man and the surge of money towards the Romney camp is at an all-time high.

On top of that, polling numbers were just released for fifteen of the biggest “battleground” states and based off of those numbers, Romney has an edge over Obama. Now I take polls with a grain of salt but it is still an indicator that the pendulum is swinging in the other direction. Now that doesn’t mean that it won’t swing back to the left by November but it seems to me that, so far, this has been Romney’s best shot at beating Obama – right here, right now.

One of the big factors in the direction of the election will be Mitt Romney’s choice for vice president. Just today, Republican favorite Chris Christie, Governor of New Jersey, said that he’d take the call if Romney phoned him to ask the question. There is a lot of speculation surrounding other GOP favorites Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio, Eric Cantor and John Thune. Conspiracy theorists are pretty sure it will be Mitch Daniels, based off of his appearance at this year’s Bilderberg convention. Regardless of who it is, it doesn’t really mean much when it comes to the big picture. Pretty much anyone Romney could pick should be able to take it Joe Biden in debates. The worst thing Romney could do however would be to pick Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann or Donald Trump. All three of them would turn this thing into a bigger circus than it already is. Bachmann is just batshit crazy – as liberals have been saying for a while, Palin – probably unfairly – is stuck with the stigma that she is unintelligent and unable to be an effective leader while Donald Trump is a fucking scumbag jackass that wears taxidermied dead things on his head because it detracts from the excrement flowing out of his mouth.

Lots of names have been mentioned by pundits and regular people everywhere. Hell, I’ve honestly heard cases for dozens. Some of the other notable candidates are Jim DeMint, Susana Martinez, Pat Toomey, John Bolton, Rob Portman, Haley Barbour, Marsha Blackburn, Mike Huckabee, Bobby Jindal, Bob McDonnell, Mike Pence, Condoleezza Rice, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Brian Sandoval and Scott Walker. Allen West has been mentioned as well but he’s barely gotten his feet wet in DC. Nikki Haley has been brought up a lot but she just started her job as Governor of North Carolina and needs to grow in that role a little bit more. Some have mentioned Tim Pawlenty and a while ago when he dropped out really early in the presidential race, it seemed likely. However, the guy is just way to vanilla and boring as shit to listen to. Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry have been mentioned but both of them can probably make more money and have a lot less responsibility if they don’t take the job. I hear Rick Santorum brought up a lot as well and I just don’t understand how anyone could take that guy seriously about anything. I’ve heard Jeb Bush’s name thrown around but I don’t think he cares. Someone at a bar the other night brought up Jan Brewer and I just had to laugh it off, as she reminds me of one of Marge’s sisters from ‘The Simpsons’. Then there’s Rand Paul. Truthfully, he needs more experience and I’d rather him prove himself to be a solid senator and then take a run at the White House himself down the road. Oddly (and that’s sarcasm), no one has mentioned Ron Paul.

There are a lot of names being mentioned and all the experts have had their say. I’m not going to try and predict who I think it might be because I just don’t fucking know and I don’t really care all that much. Now that doesn’t mean that it won’t be interesting to see who Ol’ Mittens chooses and the reasons as to why he made his choice but there are a lot of candidates out there and the choice isn’t an easy one to make. I’m sure that he’s got it narrowed down pretty far at this point however and as I stated earlier, almost any of these people should be able to run circles around our current VPOTUS.

The race is coming closer and closer to the end and in the process, things will get much more dirtier. Obama is already running attack ads against Romney and vice versa. The Obama camp was a little pissed however over FactCheck.org coming out and debunking some of their claims. Of course the Obama people had to make their disdain towards FactCheck’s reveal very publicly known, which just makes them look immature and petty. All I’m saying now, is that the left seems to be sweating hard and for those on the right, that’s a good thing. For those of us grounded in reality, we can only shake our heads over either choice.

Then again, we could always support Gary Johnson and catch the big two off guard? Nah, that’s not very masochistic.
