J. Lo Accused of Supporting Al-QaedaComments Off Jennifer Lopez has been called out by United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI)—the group claims that she’s supporting Al-Qaeda by endorsing the car company Fiat. So what in the world does a squat little car have to do with the biggest terrorist organization in the world? Here’s the deal: a Fiat subsidiary called Iveco sells vehicles in Iran, and some of these vehicles have allegedly been used in terrorist activities. It might seem like a small connection to J-Lo, but UANI is taking it very seriously. The group recently created an ad parodying Jen’s “My World” Fiat ad by taking scenes from the commercial and splicing them with graphic images of the protests in Iran. While Jennifer Lopez cruises the streets with the wind in her hair, people are shown bloodied, lying in the street, and dying. There’s a shot of a motorcycle on fire and people being hanged. It’s a little too graphic to show here. A narrator imitating J-Lo’s voice says over the video, “Fiat and the brutal Iranian regime … or the people of Iran. I hope concerned citizens don’t make me choose.” It’s certainly a provocative ad, and one that Fiat can’t be too happy about. At the end of the video the company’s name is said to stand for Facilitating Iranian Acts of Tyranny. It will be interesting to see if Fiat and J-Lo go after UANI for using their products and images in the ad—it’s fairly obvious that the group didn’t get permission from Jennifer Lopez or the company to do so, and its parody ad is making them both look bad. However, taking legal action could also end up backfiring if more people get on UANI’s side. According to the New York Daily News, the group believes J-Lo is in the wrong because she’s “serving as a spokesperson for a company that freely does business with a regime that is developing an illegal nuclear weapons program, financing and sponsoring terrorist groups including al-Qaeda, has killed American and NATO soldiers and is recognized as one of the world’s leading human rights violators.” Of course it’s highly unlikely anyone informed Jennifer that Fiat had a company selling cars in Iran, and it’s also doubtful that terrorists get all of their vehicles from Iveco. J-Lo has certainly been having a difficult time with her image lately, so she might just be praying that people ignore UANI’s claims, or perhaps she’s hoping that Fiat’s legal team will deal with them. She’s already having enough trouble defending her relationship with 24-year-old dancer Casper Smart, so she doesn’t need the added stress of defending her relationship with a car company. And there’s no telling what kind of deal she signed with Fiat—she could lose a lot of money or get sued for breach of contract if she suddenly cuts ties with the company like UANI wants. Ventura: Navy SEAL ‘Punch’ Hoax May be Retribution for Supporting Ron PaulComments Off Former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura tells the Alex Jones Show that the hoax story about Navy SEAL Chris Kyle punching him in a bar, an incident which never happened, may be part of an establishment backlash against Ventura for supporting presidential candidate Ron Paul. The controversy began last week when US Navy SEAL Chris Kyle appeared on numerous television shows, primarily to brag about how many Iraqis he had killed as a sniper and to promote his new book. Kyle claims that he met Ventura in a bar in Coronado in 2006 while Ventura was in town to speak to a new class of SEAL graduates at nearby Naval Amphibious Base Coronado. Also present were family members holding a wake for Michael Mansoor, one of the first SEALs killed in Iraq. Kyle claims Ventura began loudly objecting to the war in Iraq before calling the troops “murderers” and saying “we deserved to lose a few guys”. Kyle then claims he punched Ventura, knocked him to the floor, and quickly fled the scene. Ventura explained that if the story happened as Kyle described it then, “he’s confessing to the crime of assault.” “I want to to clear his name because he’s confessing to assaulting me, and it didn’t happen,” Ventura told the Alex Jones Show, adding “I can unequivocally tell you I’ve never been punched in Coronado, California.” Ventura explained that the owner of the bar in question, McP’s Irish Pub & Grill, was a close friend of his and that anyone was free to call him up and confirm that the alleged incident never took place. “If a former Governor within the SEAL community had been knocked down and hit and assaulted, it would have traveled through the SEAL community like wildfire,” said Ventura, pointing out how “absurd” it was for the incident only to come to light almost six years later. Ventura also emphasized how, “you’re never at McP’s alone, you’re there with your team mates, your classmates….there’ll be at least five or six guys with you, I would sure like to hear of a witness that saw this event because it never happened.” “He never hit me, I don’t even know who he is,” said Ventura, adding that if the incident had occurred the way Kyle described, there would be a police report, which there isn’t. Ventura said that he had only ever been treated with honor and dignity at every SEAl community event he had attended, adding, “I don’t know why this young gentleman wants to plead that he committed a crime against me, but I can unequivocally plead for his innocence because the event never happened.” Ventura stressed that although he has never supported the war in Iraq, he has “all the sympathy in the world for the soldiers having been one,” labeling it a “direct insult” by Kyle to question his patriotism and claim that he would verbally attack family members of a slain soldier at a wake. Gingrich Cashed in Supporting Subsidies for Big BusinessComments Off *Taken from the Daily Caller. Since leaving office in 1999, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has spent much of his time convincing conservatives to support government subsidies for large corporations, reports the Washington Examiner. In addition to his work as a “strategic consultant” for government-sponsored mortgage lender Freddie Mac, the Examiner reports that tax filings show Gingrich received money from the ethanol lobby. Green Energy, a lobbying group that works to secure and create government subsidies for the much-criticized ethanol industry, paid the Gingrich Group more than $300,000 as recently as 2009. Unlike most conservative experts on the industry, Gingrich is a staunch advocate of ethanol, an expensive corn-based alternative fuel opposed by many conservatives due to its price tag and incompatibility — at high concentrations — with some modern automobile engines. |
